Hair Removal/Reduction
Let's face it, excess body hair can be unsightly and
embarrassing. Shaving, plucking, waxing and depilatory
creams provide temporary fixes that are inconvenient,
irritating, messy and only temporary. Electrolysis is time
consuming, sometimes painful, and is useful only in removing
hair from small areas.
Excess
and unwanted hair is a common problem. Women frequently
experience this condition on the face, especially the upper
lip or eyebrow area, in the bikini area, under the arms or
on the legs. Men often wish to rid themselves of hair on
their back or chest. They too may have unwanted hair between
their eyebrows or on other parts of their face.
Advanced
technology lasers and light sources are rapidly changing
hair removal treatment, providing gentle, non-invasive and
long-lasting solutions to unwanted hair. Among laser and
light-based devices, the LightSheer™ Diode Laser System provides safety, superior results and patient
satisfaction.
With the ever-increasing popularity of laser hair removal,
the ability to offer unsurpassed results to the greatest
range of patients is crucial.
With the
LightSheer diode laser for hair removal, we are able to:
-
Provide a
treatment regimen which results in long lasting hair
removal, permanent hair reduction and high patient
satisfaction.
-
Effectively
treat virtually all hair colors and hair textures
-
Remove hair
from all skin types (Fitzpatrick Skin Types I - VI) and
tanned skin.
-
Quickly and
efficiently eliminate hair from all parts of the body,
regardless of follicle depth or how large or small the
area. This includes sensitive areas like the lip, under
the arms, and around the bikini line, as well as large
areas like a man's back or a pair of woman's legs.
-
Perform
successful hair removal with minimal patient discomfort,
side effects or interruption of routine activities
The key to
successful hair removal is destroying the entire hair
follicle and the germinative cells, while preserving
surrounding healthy tissue. Laser hair removal is most
effective when the hair is in its active growth phase called
the anagen phase; consequently, multiple treatments
scheduled several weeks or months apart are typically
required to achieve optimal results.

Lasers gently remove unwanted hair based on the
principle of selective photothermolyisis. This refers to the
process whereby the characteristics of the light energy
including wavelength and pulse duration are optimized to
selectively cause thermal injury to the hair follicle
without injuring the surrounding tissue. The light
penetrates through the skin and is absorbed in the target
pigment (melanin) found in the hair shaft. This causes the
temperature to reach a sufficiently high level in the hair
follicle so that the targeted hair structures are destroyed
and regrowth is inhibited.
The LightSheer Diode Laser System, with its unique
combination of parameters, penetrates tissue to destroy the
germinative cells at the base of the hair follicle and stunt
hair regrowth. At the same time, the aggressive cooling
provided by the LightSheer's ChillTip™ handpiece minimizes
potential collateral epidermal damage caused by light
absorption by melanin in the epidermis. The patented
ChillTip combined with efficient, reliable, high-power diode
technology, makes the family of LightSheer lasers the most
advanced hair removal system available and the recognized
gold standard for hair removal in the aesthetic marketplace.
Q: How does
the LightSheer Diode Laser System work?
A: The system emits near-infrared laser light that is
absorbed by the pigment located in the hair follicle. The
laser is pulsed, or turned on, for only a fraction of a
second. The duration of each pulse is just long enough to
damage the follicle, while the system's unique, patented
contact-cooling handpiece, the ChillTip, helps protect the
skin by conductive cooling during the laser energy delivery.
Q: What
advantages does the LightSheer have over other laser hair
removal systems?
A: The LightSheer Diode Laser System was designed from the
ground up for laser hair removal, so it has the wavelength,
fluence, pulse width, and active epidermal cooling
system—the ChillTip ideally suited for laser hair removal.
Q: Why should I use the LightSheer Diode Laser System
rather than the methods I've been using for years?
A: The LightSheer Diode Laser System's design provides for
enhanced comfort during treatment, minimal risk of
infection, speed and accuracy. Since the system uses a
unique cooling handpiece, it minimizes skin irritation that
other methods may create. Since it is non-invasive (no
needles to penetrate the skin), the risk of introducing
bacteria into the skin is reduced. Because the system is
fast, it allows for larger areas to be treated. Finally, the
LightSheer Diode Laser is a precise instrument that can be
adjusted to damage only the hair follicle while minimally
affecting the surrounding skin.
Q: Does the
LightSheer work on tanned or different skin colors?
A: The LightSheer diode laser system safely and effectively
treats all skin types (Fitzpatrick Skin Types I-VI) as well
as tanned skin. For darker skin types and people with tans,
appropriate fluences are generally lower and appropriate
pulse widths are generally longer to prevent damage to the
epidermis. Using the appropriate treatment parameters,
however, people with
all skin types can benefit from laser hair removal with the
LightSheer.
Q: Are the
Results Permanent?
A: The LightSheer laser has been cleared by the FDA for hair
removal and permanent hair reduction on all skin types and
tanned skin. To achieve a satisfactory level of clearance,
5-6 treatments are typically required.

Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive procedure based on
exfoliation of the upper most layer of the skin. The
procedure generally calls for a series of treatments for
revitalizing and improving skin appearance and smoothness.

What results
can I expect?
- To result in
healthier, firmer, and younger looking skin.
- Relieves clogged pores and blackheads.
- To diminish age spots and fine lines.
- To soften general roughness and thickened patches of skin.
- Decreases the appearance of large pores, hyperpigmentation
and acne scarring.
- Reduces scar tissue resulting in flatter, smoother skin
texture.
- Reduce mild pigment irregularities
- Enhancing penetration of therapeutic remedies
- Elimination of white and black heads
- Keratosis Pilaris
- Enhances the overall appearance of the skin
How many treatments do I need?
Microdermabrasion is best when performed as a series of 5-8
procedures at 1 to 2 week intervals. More severe skin
problems may require additional procedures to obtain the
desired results.
How soon will I see improvement?
Many patients experience smoother, softer and fresher
looking skin after the first treatment. The improvement
continues throughout the treatment program.
Are there any side effects?
Microdermabrasion is generally painless, has a very low risk
of side effects and requires no downtime. The procedure may
require a slight flushing, which typically subsides within a
few hours. Although uncommon, some patients may experience a
more pronounced blushing of the skin from increased blood
flow, which will fade gradually over
a day or two. Microdermabrasion is safe for all skin types
and color.
Is
Microdermabrasion limited to the face?
No, there are many areas of the body that may benefit from
Microdermabrasion. The most common are the face, neck, chest
and hands.
How much does it cost?
Dermea has
multiple packages available, depending on your specific
needs. When you come in for your complimentary consultation,
we will discuss the options in detail so you can decide for
yourself which one is best for you.
Peels
What are the
benefits of a Glycolic Peel?
A glycolic peel
is a light chemical peel that is an exceptional cosmetic
option for individuals who seek smoother, youthful, and more
radiant skin. A glycolic peel uses a mild alpha hydroxy
acid (AHA) derived from sugar cane to produce a light peel
of the outermost dull, damaged layers of the skin. Many
experts believe that the glycolic AHA is the most promising
for skin rejuvenation because it has the smallest molecular
size. A glycolic peel is an excellent non-surgical
minimally invasive procedure that can treat fine facial
wrinkles, acne, uneven pigment, and skin dryness.
A glycolic peel
in an excellent alternative to deeper peels for those
patients who do not wish to go through the discomfort and
recovery period required of the latter. This technique can
provide dramatic changes with little skin discomfort or
other unwanted after effects. A patient will be able to
resume normal activities after a glycolic peel almost
immediately. Time off from work and other responsibilities
is not required.
The glycolic
peel works by loosening and reducing the glue-like substance
that holds the damaged outer skin cells to each other and
the underlying tissues. This action sluffs off the
unhealthy layers of skin and also unblocks the follicles to
reduce and prevent acne. The glycolic peel then works
deeper into the skin to rejuvenate and regenerate collagen
and elastin. This effect can reduce the appearance of fine
lines, large pores, wrinkles and make the skin more radiant,
vibrant, and younger looking.
The
glycolic peel treatment that a patient receives will be
tailored to his or her skin and aesthetic goals. Patients
will require a series of treatments combined with home care
in order to achieve the optimal results.
